"I've seen them give their drugs up
in place of makeshift altars
I've heard them chanting
Kali Kali frantically."
Alanis Morrissette, "Baba"
One of Kali's stories (as told by Lilith Maeve):
They asked for my help, and I gave it.
Have you ever been out at night and you go out and you only mean to be out until eleven (twelve at the latest! You say to yourself). And you promise yourself you're only going to have one or two drinks and then go home and go to bed and be up at a reasonable hour?
Except it doesn't work that way. The dj is playing songs like he knows you're there and your friends have a little extra money so they keep putting glass after glass of appletinis in your hand. And the boys and the girls there are looking at you like you're something good to eat and they come close to you, but not too close.
So you say, what the hell? And you start dancing. And dancing. And dancing. And you can't stop because it's stopped being about worrying about what anyone else says or thinks and it becomes all about moving your body and the sweat and the flailing limbs all around you and the throbbing bass that beats with your heart. That beats with the Universal Heartbeat. And you don't want to stop. EVER. But three or four o'clock in the morning rolls around and the bouncers are shooing you out into the dark and the cold, telling you, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.
Yeah. That's basically how it was for me. Only add in a lot of blood and some demons that couldn't be killed until I did and was too drunk off them to stop until Shiva pulled me out of the bar.
