Carfax Abbey: We are honoured to have Carfax Abbey headline our festivities for Saturday night. Other Performances: Include Amber Spyglass, Dahrkhart, and Kwannon. Cream Tea Catered by Teaberry's: An exquisite affair for you to enjoy for a nominal extra charge of $10. An assortment of freshly brewed loose teas and delicious freshly baked scones scones with all the trimmings, including real imported clotted cream and lemon curd. This will take place in the hotel restaurant, Alexander's which will be ours exclusively for the tea. Masked Ball: An affair to remember! Come dressed in your finest and bring your favorite mask and dance the night away to music ranging from gothic to new wave to trance to house to indie bands you are not cool enough to have heard before. Naturally, there will be a few traditional pieces played as well. Burlesque Performance by the lovely and talented women from The Home of Happiness Rocky Horror cast: Very naughty. Very exciting. Arts Track: Recital: Just wrote a poem? Have a favorite part of a book you like to read aloud? Just composed a song to your love? Come perform for your fifteen minutes of fame (okay, probably more like ten) and be lauded by your peers! Fashion Show: The place to see what the newest, most exciting trends are in the underground fashion show for beautiful people of all shapes and sizes. Ball Room Dance Instruction: The ballroom scenes are always some of the best parts of period pieces. Now here's your chance to learn how to look like you're out of an Austin novel. Besides, who wouldn't be charmed by your talent at the masked ball? Victorian Dance Instruction: More opportunity to show off your grace and style. The Gentleman's Adventuring Society and Finishing School Dropout Coterie Presents: A Scientific Symposium: Come see Victorian inspired scientific experiments and discuss your own laboratory. Artist Social: Come meet the visual artists providing wall decor at SalonCon and discuss their works. The Black Rose Awful Poetry Championship: We've all been there -- that poem or two that felt so right and later felt so wrong. Let's embrace the awfulness! Come participate in an Iron Chef style competition where everyone takes out their worst rhymes, worst cliches, and terrible mixed metaphors. Catherynne Valente Book Reading & Signing: Come listen to Catherynne's beautifully intricate fairy tales and get your books autographed. Ramen to Rock & Roll: Ever wonder what it's like to go from having nothing to becoming a rock star? Join Myke Hideous as he discusses as he outlines his career with EMPIRE HIDEOUS, SpySociety99, Bronx Casket Co, and The Misfits. Myke will also be doing a reading from his book and a signing of cds and books. Writer's Workshop: Come meet with K. Filan, editor of New Witch magazine as we discuss what the BBI looks for in accepting articles. There will then be an opportunity for peer revision on your own work. All genres welcome. Sarah Bunting (Sars) Reading & Signing: Come join Sars for her trademark wit as she reads her newest pieces and get your books signed. History of Piercing: Think it's a new thing? Think again. Join us for a thought provoking slide show and presentation on the art of piercing. Leisure Track: Charity Auction: Come assuage your conscious and spend your hard earned money freely, it all goes to charity. We will be supporting The Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation. Victorian Courtship rituals: Looking to add a special someone to your life? The Victorian time period was full of little games for people to get to know each other. Of course we will be playing some! Ladies Sewing and Mischief Circle (with the Gentlemen Auxiliary chapter): The best place to catch up on all the day's gossip and make new friends. It's best to bring your own crafts, but we will supply a small amount of sewing supplies. Gaming Hell: Thanks to this modern age, what was once enjoyed only by the male gentry is now enjoyed by all. Come gamble for prizes and who knows who you'll find dealing? Indoor Horseshoes: Where almost does indeed count. Parlour Games: Learn and play such Victorian classics as Feather and Poor Pussy. Indoor Croquet: Are you a Heather or a Veronica? Modern Jack the Ripper LARP: Ah Jack. Every horror fanatic's soft spot. But what if Jack was loose in this very con? What would happen? Think more Law & Order and CSI for this adventure. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Meetup: It's the little perfume e-tailer with its own (obsessive) fandom . . . hundreds of "intriguing, >compelling body and household blends with a dark, romantic Gothic tone." All scents are hand-blended and contain no animal ingredients. They even had the good taste to donate their wares to SalonCon's Charity Auction! If you're already a BPALhead, show off your own collection for swapping and sniffing; if you'd just like to learn more, we'll be happy to indoctrinate you. :) The organizer will bring her own swap/freebie pile, and testers of select Limited Edition fragrances. This workshop is appropriate for people ages 14+ and up. While BPAL's oils are free of alcohol and synthetics, those with allergies or chemical sensitivities may wish to choose a different workshop. And of course. . . The Salons: We know you're dying to show off your intellectual prowess, come discuss topics ranging anywhere from arts to pop culture to fashion to science. Or be brave if you dare and attend a salon on a topic you're not well versed in and learn something new . . .Many salons will be led by people who are prominent in zir field, such as the notable Sars (of Tomato Nation/Television Without Pity fame) and Catherynne Valente (acclaimed author of lovely faery tales). |
